Strategy against Corona, Covid-19

So Sweden has a very different strategy in the fight against the Corona or Covid-19 virus.

We are all still very free moving around. There are restrictions like no more then 50 people at a venue, our higher education has lectures via web, fewer trains and busses, people are expected to stay home and work from home if possible. Also if you experience any symtoms of a cold or anything really you are expected to stay home, you need to be 100%. Every day at 14 the Public Health Authority has a press conference where they present the latest numbers and updates.

Daycare and lower education is still open, because these young children can’t be expected to conduct their own education via web and if the parents are expected to work from home then they can’t educate the children.

For now the strategy seems to be working. Because I have diabetes I was really worried and actually wanted them to shut down the whole country - but the days I need to be at work there is only people on every other seet on the train so there is distance even there.

What you got to understand is that Sweden is built on solidarity. Everyone pays 33% taxes on their earnings and this money is used to pay for those who don’t have work, for medical care, for medicines, for dental care, for schools even higher education, for the whole social security system that is Sweden. You still pay for many of these services however a very reduced fee. We don’t want anyone to miss out on care or medicines due to lack of income.

Childrens medication, glasses, school, dental care, medical care is all for free until they turn 20 years old. Child poverty should not prevent kids from being well enough taken care of by the whole.

I think that is the key to our strategy working - the solidarity that built this country.
